ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) and Michael Morgan on July 2, 1989. She and her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played multiple sports throughout her early years, but did not favor soccer until the age of 14. Following high school, Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team. They were the winners of the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and placed third in their under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to train at Diamond Bar High School, where she honed her soccer skills. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also participated in the Olympic Development Division's state and regional divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from her first season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice to the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan was a graduate in 2010 and had the third highest amount of goals and points at Berkeley. Morgan was able to maintain soccer careers at both the college and national levels during her studies. During her first year on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury which barred her from training with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. In Mexico, Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The team was awarded the gold medal, and she scored her first international goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. One of these was a victory goal over Italy that secured the U.S. team a final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and played a key role in helping to win the game against France. Morgan was the team's youngest player, and was the one who led them to victory over Japan.
